Middle School Hawks Defeat US in Wrestling!

Hearty congratulations go out to the Hawken Middle School Wrestling team, which won its December 13th match against US by a score of 44-40. This historic match marked Hawken`s first-ever wrestling victory over US at either the Middle or Upper School level, signifying a landmark moment in this rivalry that has continued for over 25 years. When asked what gave the Middle School Hawks their edge this year, Coach Dan Walton replied, "they went in with an absolutely great attitude. They`ve been practicing really hard, and they really responded to this opportunity to make a name for themselves." Walton described the mood following the win as "beautiful! It was extremely quiet on our side, but there was nothing but smiles GÇô it was a lot of guys being very excited for other each. The fact that the match was held at US made it even better." Walton emphasized that each wrestler made his own important contribution to the "whole team victory." Team members include 8th graders Nate Baker, Sam Broer, Taylor Davis, Dylan Ford, Teddy Hook, John Kachurek, Michael Marabito, Simon McCarthy, Eric Meisel, Montreaux Rodgers, Bryan Silverman, and Mark West; and 7th graders Will Bolton, Curtis Clark, Alex Harrison, and Connor Musarra. The upset over US brings the wrestling team`s 2005-2006 record to 5-0; six more meets are scheduled following the winter break.
