Sculptor Alicia Basinger Visits Upper School Art Classes

archive
During the week of May 2, ceramicist Alicia Basinger visited the Upper School, working with students in the art studio and discussing her work. Basinger`s sculptures \"concentrate on how manmade and natural forces interact with, encroach upon and transform the earth`s landscape. Basinger deliberately produces superficial ceramic `defects...` that reflect man`s fragile, sometimes volatile exchange with nature.\" On May 20, Basinger`s work will be exhibited at MOCA, where she being featured as the seventh artist in MOCA Cleveland`s annual Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist Series. Wendy L. Moore, a Hawken graduate, was an inspiring artist and Cleveland native who died as the result of an accident in 1997. To continue Wendy`s spirit, the Moore family sponsors an annual exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland devoted to furthering the career of a young female artist in our region.
