Power of the Pen Prevails at Regional Competition

Both the seventh and eighth grade Power of the Pen teams were awarded first place this past weekend at the Regional Power of the Pen Tournament held at Hudson Middle School. Over 200 students from schools including Hathaway Brown, Laurel, Hudson, University School, and West Geauga wrote responses to prompts in three separate, 40-minute rounds.

In addition to the team's first place wins, Hawken won the Rotating Sweepstakes Trophy for Excellence in Writing, which will be displayed at our Lyndhurst Campus throughout the coming year. Individual awards were won by Alison Jin '15 for 2nd place and Valerie Heyd '15 for 4th place.

Congratulations to seventh grade team members Alex Amin, Francesca Cominelli, Maddie Hengst, Valerie Heyd, Alison Jin, and Parker Selman and eighth grade team members Anna Du, Lena Goren, Sophie Kerman, Efae Nicholson, Elijah Spiro, and Sarah Stark - and stay tuned for news of students who qualify for the State Competition at The College of Wooster in May!
