Hardy Hawks Row through Snow at Head of the Charles

Several Hawks recently traveled to Boston to participate in the Head of the Charles regatta held on October 17-18.  Sara Mierke ‘84 rowed for the Western Reserve Rowing Association Senior Master Eights Women, finishing with the 11th best time and earning an invitation to return next year. Gavin Farrell ‘98 rowed for the Cleveland Rowing Foundation, finishing  40th out of 55.  Ben and Gabe Whitehead (Hawken ’13) rowed with the WRRA as the Hawken School Rowing Club, finishing 28th out of 33 in the junior men’s doubles event.  Father and Hawken Trustee Brad Whitehead’s first race of the weekend featured the Harvard University Heavyweight Class of ’82 team racing under the name Heart of the Crude,” landing 6th place out of 33, just two seconds away from the medal stand.  His second event was the Directors Challenge Men’s Quad, where he raced under the name “Cleveland Clunkers,” finishing 12th out of 26 as temperatures dropped.  “The snow was definitely a highlight,” Brad notes.
