John Fleming, Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at Princeton University, will be visiting Hawken on Wednesday, October 14. During his time on campus, he will be a guest in ninth grade humanities classes and present a lecture to all Upper School students and faculty. The recipient of many awards and fellowships, a highly published author, and a frequent lecturer on topics spanning medieval art history and European literature, Professor Fleming is one of the world’s pre-eminent scholars in his field. His visit is made possible by Hawken parents Rick Doody and Tamara Durn Doody.
The Hawken community is invited to hear Mr. Fleming speak at Case Western Reserve University on Thursday, October 15, where he will present “The Letter and the Spirit: Pictorial Imagery and Scriptural Exegesis in Medieval and Renaissance Art” at the Mandel Center for Non-Profit Organizations, Room 115, 11402 Bellflower Rd., at 5:00 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Art History and Art at Case Western Reserve University.
