Student and Faculty Playwrights Celebrate Festival of Student Plays

What can happen in a two-minute play? The answer, it turns out, is: almost anything. If you need proof, come see this weekend’s Spring Theatre production at the Upper School, comprised of thirty plays written by Hawken students and faculty. In a schoolwide playwriting contest held throughout March and April, students and faculty submitted more than 170 two-minute plays. The topics ranged from a personified GPS device to a battle over the last Twix bar to the sudden appearance of Shakespearean characters in a Hawken student’s dreams. Of these varied submissions, thirty were chosen to be performed by the Spring Theatre Project ensemble. Performances will take place in the Pronto Room in Ireland Hall this Friday and Saturday, May 8th and 9th at 7 and 9 pm. Tickets are free but reservations are recommended; contact Julia Griffin (jgrif@hawken.edu).
