Hawken Places Third in Nation for Number of US Physics Team Competition Semi-finalists

Congratulations to Omar Diab '10, Michael Eby '10, David Gerson '10, Brian Huser '09, and Quentin Smith '09 for making it to the semi-final round in the U.S. Physics Team competition. These students placed among the top 150 physics students in the nation out of the more than 3,000 who took the preliminary exam. Only two schools in the nation have more semi-finalists than Hawken, both of them significantly larger schools.
The U.S. Physics Olympiad Program is a joint initiative of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) and the American Institute for Physics (AIP). AAPT began the program in 1986 to promote and demonstrate academic excellence. The International Olympiad is a nine-day competition among high school students from more than 80 nations. Of the 150 students who reach the semi-finals, 24 will be selected to be members of the U.S. Physics Team. Selection is based on exam performance, student transcripts, and letters of recommendation.

Congratulations to all Hawken semi-finalists, and best of luck in the final round!
