Graduate Premieres Film at Cleveland Film Festival

As Ohio goes...for governor, so goes the presidential election?

It's just one of the premises explored in a new documentary that Hawken graduate Spencer Young '92, Jason Zone Fisher, son of Ohio’s Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, and his college friend John Intrater will premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival on March 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The film "Swing State" follows Ted Strickland and his running mate Lee Fisher along the campaign trail in the hotly contested 2006 gubernatorial race that had them up against then-Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and Tom Raga.

After a 2004 presidential election wracked by scandal, with accusations tossed about that Republicans had mounted a campaign to subvert the will of the voters, that Ohio was at the center of it all and that Blackwell was a conspirator in the supposed duplicity to secure the White House for George W. Bush, Ohio's race for governor was one that seemed to center, among other things, on the possibility that the outcome of the state's 2006 elections had significant bearing on who would ultimately win the presidency in 2008.

"Swing State" features the opinions of a Who's Who of politicians and actors who weigh in on the political climate in Ohio and its status as a decisive battleground for the presidency.
