Speech and Debate Team Wins Award Honoring Late Faculty Member

Hawken's Speech and Debate Team recently competed in the Cleveland District of the Ohio High School Speech League's District tournament, winning district champion in Public Forum debate and Policy Debate and winning best overall school in Lincoln Douglas Debate. The team also placed second overrall in team sweepstakes over teams from Gilmour, Hathaway Brown and University School.

Hawken's Lincoln Douglas Team received the Dr. Larry Banks Lincoln Douglas Award as the first place school at the district in Lincoln Douglas Debate. The award named for the former Hawken faculty member was started by the Cleveland District in 1998 to honor Dr. Banks's retirement from Hawken and his many years of dedication to Lincoln Douglas debate in the Cleveland District and in the State.
