Senior Bound for Hoosiersville

After leaving behind the Red and Gray when she graduates in June, Brittany Strumbel will don the Crimson and Cream next fall as she joins Indiana University's women's swimming team. She recently signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Hoosiers.

"Brittany is a great middle distance freestyler and recently qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 IM," said women's swimming head coach Ray Looze. "She is extremely versatile."

In addition to leading the Lady Hawks, Brittany swims with the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins, a club of Lake Erie Swimming, Inc. and competed this summer at the 2007 Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100 free, 400 free, 800 free and the 200 individual medley. She placed 10th in the nation in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.20, an Olympic Trial qualifying time and a Lake Erie 15-16 and Open record time.

Last season, Brittany helped lead Hawken to its eighth consecutive Ohio state championship with an individual title in the 200 free. In addition, Strumbel was voted the outstanding performer in Division II swimming and was the Plain Dealer's Girls Swimmer of the Year for 2006-07. She is a nine-time state champion in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and relays and an 11-time All-American.
