Birchwood Writer Named National Finalist

The fictional short story, “Being Popular Isn’t for Everyone,” written by Birchwood seventh grader, Jennifer, is a finalist in the “It’s All Write” Teen Writing Contest sponsored by the Ann Arbor District Library in Michigan. Most of Birchwood’s seventh graders entered this international competition this past winter in one of three categories: poetry, flash fiction, and short story.

Jennifer’s creative writing piece is one of about 30 finalists in the grades 6-8 short story category. Winners were announced on the Michigan Public Library’s website and local Ann Arbor television. All winning submissions will be published on the library’s website.
Her writing teacher, Lorraine Tzeng, described her process saying that “Jennifer diligently returned to the drawing board until every element in the story fell in place.” Congratulations to Jennifer on this much-deserved honor!
