    Students Present at STEMM Research Symposium

    Congratulations to all Hawken STEMM students on their success at the 16th Annual Dr. Robert Maciunas STEMM Research Symposium held last week. As Director of Hawken's Paepke STEMM Research Program Lacy Chick notes, “Our students did amazing work over the last year and a half and brought all their research and expertise together to present to judges and the Hawken community.”

    24 Seniors Recognized in National Merit Competition

    Congratulations to the 24 Hawken seniors who received recognition in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

    Hawken Speech and Debate Team Wins School of Outstanding Distinction Award at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament

    More than 6,600 students from 1,500 schools across the country competed June 15-21 at the National Speech and Debate Association national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. By week's end, the Hawken Speech and Debate Team earned the Association's highest honor and was named a School of Outstanding Distinction, awarded to the top ten schools in the country for overall speech and debate excellence. Hawken was the only school in Ohio to receive this honor.

    Mastery Transcript Goes National

    In 2015, as part of the design work to create the Mastery School of Hawken, Head of School Scott Looney created the model for the Mastery Transcript, a new digital transcript that assessed academic credits through faculty review of digital portfolios of student’s best work, rather than seat time in courses, and without letter grades.

    Join us in congratulating the Class of 2024 on their college choices! This is the second year that Hawken's graduating class includes students from both the Upper School and the Mastery School of Hawken—and those from the Mastery School have completed all four of their high school years at our University Circle campus.

    STEMM Hawks Garners Accolades at NEOSEF; Junior Named Grand Prize Winner

    Twelve Upper School Hawks did a stellar job representing Hawken School’s STEMM Program at last night’s 71st Annual Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF), where students presented their projects to esteemed experts in their respective STEM fields. Our Hawken representatives brought home prizes in Biology, Chemistry, Health-Medicine, and Engineering, as well as multiple prizes in 13 Professional Award categories, and a total of $2000 in cash prizes.
  • Hawken Student-Athletes Named Champions and Runners-Up at State Meets

    Congratulations to the girls swim team on being named state runner-up at the state championship meet! Special kudos go to Sarah Pophal '24 for winning her second consecutive individual state title in dramatic fashion, after trailing most of the race and crushing the last 100 yards.
  • Hawken Speech and Debate Team Named State Champions!

    The Hawken Speech and Debate Team competed at the Ohio Speech and Debate Association state tournament February 29 - March 2, at Wooster High School. The Hawks emerged as Team State Champions! This is the team's fourth team state championship, having won previously in 2014, 2016, and 2021.

    10 Seniors Named National Merit Finalists

    Congratulations to the ten Hawken seniors who have been named finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Competition: Tolga Cavusoglu, David Dettelbach, Pranay Gupta, Andrew Hou, Kevin Jin, Elena Padley, Luka Simpfendorfer, Eva Stern, Niko Ustin (Mastery School), and Kahjin Yap.
  • Two Seniors Nominated for Presidential Scholars Program  

    Congratulations to Hawken seniors Pranay Gupta and Kevin (Hongyu) Jin on being invited to apply for the prestigious Presidential Scholars Program.
  • 46 Speech and Debate Hawks Qualify for State Tournament

    The Hawken Speech and Debate Team has qualified twelve students to the NSDA National Speech and Debate Tournament June 16-21, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa.
