Birchwood Students take part in 25th Annual Young Astronaut Day
A team of Birchwood students in grades 5-8 competed in the annual Young Astronauts Day at the NASA Glenn Research Center on Saturday, Oct. 28. Students were divided into two groups the Pilot Team and the Commander Team before spending the morning competing in hands-on activities related to engineering problem-solving skills.
The Pilot Team consisted of fifth and sixth grade students: Lydia, Rebecca, Abigail, Andrew, Ryan, Naoki, and Jennifer. The team placed first overall. Andrew, Ryan, and Naoki placed first in the Planetary Lander challenge. Jennifer and Lydia received an honorable mention in the Spudnut challenge. The Commander Team included seventh grade students: Zayd, Arman, Charlotte, Eric, Eliana, and John. Arman, John, and Eliana placed first in the Scan Challenge. Great job to all who participated!
