Middle School students returned from their Doorways trips having gained newfound confidence, independence and enlightenment.
Sixth graders traveled to Williamsburg and learned about budgets and finances, researching topics from the Colonial era, and group dynamics and expectations. They marched in platoons as militia, played the role of juror or spectator in the production of Cry Witch, learned how the plantation slaves used music to lift their spirits and build community, dressed in Colonial attire, and much, much more.
Seventh graders visited Washington, DC after stopping in Gettysburg along the way to tour Civil War battlefields. In DC they visitied the Jefferson Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and numerous other memorials and museums. They also enjoyed ghost story tours, the play One Destiny at Ford's Theater, Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center, and a dinner and dancing cruise on the Potomac.
Eighth graders enjoyed an urban adventure through the New York City Outward Bound organization and traveled the streets of New York on foot as well as by subway and bus. While spending time in many neighborhoods of the city and learning about some of the forces that shaped the "Big Apple," they engaged with many new people and were exposed to new foods and activities, including Central Park, Chelsea Market, and the High Line.
