Hawken Students Serve on Saltzman Youth Panel

Congratulations to the Hawken students who have just completed their year on the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s 2015-2016 Saltzman Youth Panel: Reed Abrams ‘18, Jordyn Bauer ‘17, Josh Caplan ‘17, Ryan Covitt ‘18, Mason Goldberg ’18 and David Wittenberg ’17.
These students, along with other members of the panel, recommended grants totaling $40,000 to 11 organizations for crucial programs in the Jewish and general communities.

Among the grants were $7,500 to the Hebrew Shelter Home for new furniture and appliances, $7,500 to Jewish Family Service Association (JFSA) to provide an improved multisensory environment for adults with developmental disabilities, $7,000 to Menorah Park to support rehabilitation programs for patients with Parkinson’s Disease, $2,500 to help create an ecological coexistence playground in Israel to promote peace and educate young people, a program run by our international partner, the Jewish Agency for Israel, and $1,600 to The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland for the Teen Clinic and Outreach Education program.

The Saltzman Youth Grant Program of the Jewish Federation was established in 1998 by Shirley Saltzman and her family to educate younger members of the Jewish community about the importance of Jewish communal decision-making, the philanthropic process and responding to Jewish and general community needs.  The program perpetuates the goals of the late Maurice Saltzman, a past president of the Jewish Federation, who cared deeply about educating the next generation of Jewish community leadership.
