Chess Club Shines in the Canton Scholastic Chess LeagueTournament.

Nicholas Bislich ’19, Austin Daly ’22, Nikhil Goel ’19, Alexander Isherwood ’16, Brennen Keuchel ’19, Connor Keuchel ’17, Destynn Keuchel ‘22, and Anton Salem ’16 were among 208 students who participated in the Canton Scholastic Chess League Tournament last month.
 
In K-12 U500 section, Alexander, Anton, and Nikhil entered their last round with perfect scores. Nikhil lost his last game, tied for sixth and came in ninth place after tie-break among 65 players in his second chess tournament.  Alexander and Anton, both in their first scholastic chess tournament, were undefeated and tied for first place.  Alexander placed first, and Anton placed third after tie-break. As a team, they captured first place among 12 schools.
 
In 6-8 Championship section, Austin, also in his second chess tournament, competed as the last seed in this challenging section and came in 11th place among 36 players. Destynn won all his games and captured first place.
 
In the 9-12 Championship section, Brennen, Connor, and Nicholas competed as a team and captured first place among five schools. Connor and Brennen were the only two players with perfect scores going to the last round. As a result, they had to face each other, and drew their game. They tied for first place among 21 players. After tie-break, Brennen came in first and Connor came in second place.
