Hawken Speech & Debate Earns 4 State Titles
Hawken's Speech and Debate Team took home three individual state awards and also won Team Sweepstakes State Champion at the Ohio High School Speech League State Championship held March 4-5 at Cincinnati Princeton High School.
The three individual state championships were:
- Nicole Kastelic - Lincoln Douglas Debate state champion
- Phillip Hedayatnia - Congressional Debate state champion
- Kevin Yu and Matt Zhu - Policy Debate state champion
Hawken also reclaimed the Team Sweepstakes State Championship, which the team won in 2014. This is the first time Hawken has had three individual state champions and the team sweepstakes score from 2014.
Other students honored at the award's ceremony were:
- Isaac Jacobson - 2nd place in International Extemporaneous Speaking
- Matt Zhu - 1st place speaker award in Policy Debate
- Noah Charnas and Derrick Liu - semi-finalists in Policy Debate
Three out of the eight quarter-finalist teams in Public Forum Debate:
- James Swingos and Devesh Modi
- Ozan Ergungor and Ammar Lone
- Sauren Khosla and Kareem Danan

- Mitch Maly - semi-finalist in Dramatic Interpretation
- Anton Salem - semi-finalist in United States Extemporaneous Speaking
- Brian Sun - quarter-finalist in International Extemporaneous Speaking
