Second Oldest Alum Turns 100

Jock Collens from the Class of 1931 was born October 21, 1915, just weeks after Hawken School first opened its doors.

Mr. Collens visited Hawken in early September and addressed the Lower School in the Chapel. Accompanied by his son Jake Collens from the Class of 1968, Mr. Collens reminisced about his days at Hawken, telling current students:
  • His two brothers and two sons all attended Hawken.
  • When he started in first grade on Ansel Road, there were about seven boys in his class
  • “The size of the School has changed, but the meaning of FAIR PLAY has not.”
  • “Your time at Hawken is something to be proud of.  Make it count.”
After graduating from Hawken, Jock Collens attended Yale and Harvard Law School. He currently resides in Medina.
