Speech and Debate Team Competes at State Tournament
Hawken's Speech and Debate Team sent 29 students to Youngstown to compete at the 2015 Ohio High School Speech League state tournament.
Qualifying for the OHSSL tournament is a great honor and allows students to compete against the best of the best in the state of Ohio. As a team, Hawken earned 7th Place in Team Sweepstakes.
Hawken also achieved fantastic individual results:
Congressional Debate:
-Junior Phillip Hedayatnia placed 3rd
-Senior Larry Fulton placed 6th
-Junior Tim Holman advanced to the Final Round
Lincoln Douglas Debate:
-Senior Jack Weisman advanced to Semifinals
-Junior Nicole Kastelic advanced to Semifinals
International Extemporaneous Speaking:
-Senior Yvana Petros advanced to Quarterfinals
-Junior Isaac Jacobson advanced to Quarterfinals
Policy Debate:
-Junior Matt Zhu and Sophomore Kevin Yu advanced to Quarterfinals
Public Forum Debate:
-Seniors Max Schachere and Aman Nair advanced to Octafinals
-Sophomores Ozan Ergungor and Ammar Lone advanced to Octafinals
The Hawks will return from spring break for the championship season at the TOC, NCFLs and NSDA Nationals.
