Graduate Receives Agriculture Award
1980 graduate Beth Gibans was named 2014 Agriculture Citizen of the Year at a January awards ceremony in Oregon.
The Northeast Oregon Economic Development District nominated Beth, owner and operator of Backyard Gardens Produce and Catering LLC, "in recognition of her exemplary efforts to provide healthful products to Wallowa County customers while emphasizing natural and sustainable methods of agricultural production."
Beth raisers hundreds of varieties of mixed vegetables, herbs and flowers using organic growing methods. In addition to selling her goods and using them in a catering business, Beth volunteers her expertise to improve the local food system and train emerging farmers.
