29 Students Qualify for State Speech and Debate Tournament
Hawken speech and debate has qualified an impressive number of 29 students for the state tournament in March. Even more impressive is the depth of the qualifiers: 8 are seniors, 12 are juniors, 5 are sophomores, and 4 are freshman.
The Hawken Hawks competed Feb. 6 and 7 in the Cleveland District OHSSL Tournament at Berea-Midpark High School for the chance to represent Cleveland at the Ohio High School Speech League state championship tournament in March.
After an intense week of practice and preparation for the district tournament, Hawken students achieved amazing results, qualifying 29 students to the OHSSL State Championship Tournament in March -- 19 students in debate events and 10 students in speech events.
In Congressional Debate: - Larry Fulton '15, Phillip Hedayatnia '16, and Tim Holman '16 were selected by coaches to represent Hawken at the OHSSL State Tournament
In Dramatic Interpretation: - Mitchell Maly '16 qualified to the OHSSL State Tournament - Nick Buchanan '17 is 2nd Alternate to the OHSSL State Tournament
