Hawken’s production of the 1983 Olivier Award winning Best Musical is directed and designed by Upper School Theatre Director Mike Larochelle, assisted by students Arianna Marino ’15 and Jemima Cashman ’16, with music direction by Sergio Castellanos.

Blood Brothers is a about twins who are separated at birth when their mother realizes she cannot take care of the both of them. Fate reunites them as children and, unaware of their connection, they become fast friends. Eventually both find love; unfortunately, it’s with the same woman. The brothers’ relationship spirals downward until it explodes in a tragedy of class conflict.
Blood Brothers examines the issue of nature versus nurture while it exposes the disastrous effects of a cruel economy on every member of society. The 1988 London revival of the musical ran for more than 24 years in the West End, and played more than 10,000 performances, becoming the third longest-running musical production in West End history. Blood Brothers won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical in London where the Sunday Times declared it "exhilarating . . . one of the best musicals ever written."
