Two Seniors Named Semi-Finalists in Presidential Scholar Program

Hawken seniors Emily Hedlund and Maureen Rakovec have been selected as semi-finalists in the United States Presidential Scholars Program

Each year, select students are invited to submit an extensive application including essays and recommendations for consideration to be named as a scholar.  If selected, scholars are invited to Washington, DC for celebrations and activites that culminate in a ceremony with the President of the United States.  Both Emily and Maureen have been honored with this semi-finalist status and will apply for the program.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. Each year, up to 141 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.
