Noted Illustrator Visits 5th Grade

Award winning artist and illustrator Gerard Dubois visited Hawken's 5th grade to talk about his illustrated book Monsieur Marceau: Actor Without Words, written by Leda Schubert.

Dubois was in town to receive the Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography award, a biannual award given out by the Cleveland Public Library.

Fifth graders had the opportunity to read Mr. Dubois' book, see his portfolio and illustration process, and do an illustration activity.

Gerard Dubois was Born in France. He studied graphic design in Paris at L.E.I. Rue Madame and École Supérieure Estienne. He then moved to Montréal, Canada where he still lives with his wife and his two kids.

Dubois has illustrated 20 children’s and adult books and has had his work printed in a variety of magazines and newspapers such as Time, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Le Monde, The New Yorker, The Reader’s Digest, and Rolling Stone.
