Entrepreneurship Students Present to Sharks
Last month, four student groups made Shark Tank-style presentations at the Gries Center in search of viable scalable business models for their business ideas.
Modeled after the popular ABC TV show Shark Tank, the "Sharks" included Hawken alum Charlie Stack '72, Founder of FlashStarts accelerator; Rem Harris, VP of Investments at Jumpstart; Lisa Buchan, business consultant Bizdom (Quicken accelerator); and Bob Means, Chief Education Officer, Shaker Launch House.

- DART: a resurrection of web van; grocery delivery with a twist
- Trendy Trade: global clothing swap
- Peer2Pro Tutoring: the eHarmony of tutoring
- COR: social media for people who want to keep it real
Following the pitches, a parent-sponsored lunch was served. Hawken Alum Peter Rome '77 graciously donated tee shirts for the class sporting the slogan "Hawken Entrepreneurs powered by Avitae." Rome also awarded a paid internship to one team of four earlier in the semester.
Charlie Stack '72 encouraged interested entrepreneurship students to apply for his summer internship, usually reserved for college students. Applications open in January.

Shark Charlie Stack '72 writes a "check" to DART. Though no real money was exchanged during the final pitches, several teams were encouraged to apply to local NE Ohio accelerators.

Murat Berme, Director Microsoft Ventures, visited the entrepreneurship class the day before presentations. Murat lent a hand in prepping the student teams and observed students in action, as Microsoft is looking to bring to scale a high school entrepreneurship curriculum.
