Graduate's Film Chosen for Film Festival

"Becoming an Ally," a film by Annie Koeblitz '09, was shown at the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando last week.
The film is based on her personal experiences with her brother, Bill Koeblitz '06, and inspired by a story of a student who face opposition starting a gay-straight alliance group at her middle school. Finding that her college friends had little insight into what it meant to be gay, Annie thought "That could be the missing link for... college students. Gay-straight alliances in high school allow straight students to interact with their GLBTQ peers, and that interaction can often form a basis of understanding."

The Global Peace Film Festival is an annual collection of movies and shorts focused on social justice issues. "Becoming an Ally" was selected to open for one of the festival’s most talked about features, "Billy & Alan: In Life, Love and Death, Equality Matters."
