Hawken Graduate Named President of Kenyon

Dr. Sean Decatur, a 1986 Hawken graduate, has been named president of Kenyon College after a national search.  He begins his appointment in July and becomes the first African-American president of the Gambier, OH, college.


After a nationwide search, Dr. Sean Decatur, a 1986 Hawken graduate, has been named president of Kenyon College.  He begins his appointment in July and becomes the first African-American president of the Gambier, OH, college. Decatur has been dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oberlin for the past five years. 

"In Sean Decatur, Kenyon College has a leader who understands the vital importance of the liberal arts in shaping the leaders, decision-makers, researchers and creative thinkers who will drive the economy and American culture for coming generations," Kenyon's board chairman Barry F. Schwartz said in a written statement.
