Debaters Win at Stanford and Harvard

Hawken debaters had impressive performances at national competitions this month as they head toward the state tournament at the beginning of March.

Hawken's Public Forum team of Tim Perevozchikov '14 and Aric Floyd '14 were crowned tournament champions in a field of 161 nationally selected teams at the prestigious Stanford Invitational Speech & Debate Tournament held February 9-11 at the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, CA. Arman Raz '13 and Michael Meany '13 were quarterfinalists, and Zachary Kirsch '14 and Sid Ahuja '14 were double-octa-finalists in Public Forum debate.

At the Harvard National Forensics Tournament, held February 16-18 at Harvard University, Tim won the first place Public Forum speaker award, besting a field of 578 Public Forum debaters. Will Mascaro '14 was a quarterfinalist in Congressional Debate. Tim Perevozchikov '14 and Ron Lubarsky '14 were double-octa-finalists in Public Forum debate.

At the North Coast District National Forensic League National Qualifying tournaments held February 9 and 15-16 at St. Ignatius, Will took first place in Senate debate, earning a place in the national tournament in Birmingham, AL, this June. Phillip Hedayatnia '16 took second place in House debate and is 1st alternate to the national tournament. Russell Cohen '13 is first alternate to nationals in Lincoln Douglas debate and also qualified for the state tournament in March. Zachary and Sid qualified in Public Forum debate and will be joining their Public Forum teammates Tim and Ron at the national tournament in June 2013.
