Hawken Welcomes Exchange Students

Since 2008 Hawken Upper School has hosted exchange students from countries such as Botswana, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Lithuania and The Republic of Macedonia. This year, we welcome Melinda Shou from Germany and Abbie Petts from Queensland, Australia for the 2012-2013 academic year. Both students are attending through the ASSIST program.

Melinda will be living with the Sue and Hugh McKay family in Solon for the first half of the year. She speaks German and Chinese and enjoys playing the violin, swimming, surfing and biking. While at Hawken, she hopes to perfect her English and looks forward to learning about U.S. culture.

The daughter of two educators, Abbie (pictured right) balances her academic goals with athletic endeavors such as basketball, soccer and volleyball. She also enjoys the arts and in 2011 made a life-changing service trip to Malawi. Abbie will be living with the Charles and Carolyn Arnold family in Pepper Pike.  Read more about Abbie in this article from the Australian Sunshine Coast Daily.
