Beloved Former Teacher James Bresnicky Passes On

James P. Bresnicky passed away on November 21, 2011. Mr. Bresnicky began his 28 year career at Hawken in 1964 and taught Latin at the Upper School. He earned degrees from Stonehill College, Duquesne University and John Carroll University. When not teaching, Mr. Bresnicky (“Brez”) dabbled in theatrical productions (including an appearance as Willy Loman in Hawken’s production of "Death of a Salesman"), was a formidable Scrabble player and taught woodshop. A wood box made by Mr. Bresnicky in the mid 1980s for lost and found item continues to be used for that purpose today. Mr. Bresnicky was an inspiration to his students, and was named honorary alumnus of Hawken in 1999.

He is survived by Joan, his wife of 53 years and children Mary B. McKee ‘78 of Oberlin (Richard), James P. Bresnicky Jr. ‘79 and Anne Bresnicky Moore ‘82, both of Tampa, and John "Jack" Bresnicky ‘84 of San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that gifts in memory of Mr. B be made to Hawken School, P.O. Box 8002, Gates Mills, Ohio 44040 or Sacred Heart Church, 410 410 W Lorain St, Oberlin, OH 44074.

A private memorial Mass will be scheduled.
