Eighth Graders Pause for Reflection at Closing Exercises

The eighth grade class bid farewell to their middle school years and the Lyndhurst campus at the Closing Exercises held on Thursday, June 3rd in the Ingalls Gymnasium.

After welcoming addresses by Alison Jin, Samaresh Rao and Timothy Foster, Parker Selman, the Muriel Bell Award winner, offered a musical reflection. Mara Cohen, valedictorian, then delivered the Valedictorian Address.
Following the student addresses, Interim Director of the Middle School Matthew Young reflected on the profound lessons the students have learned since first grade, highlighting examples from 2003 relating to science and technology, music and art, and athletics – categories that represent “the nuclei around which personal confidence and meaningful friendships have formed.” Head of School Scott Looney then offered closing remarks in which he shared the secret to success in high school: involvement in extra-curricular activities. After joining in the singing of the Alma Mater, faculty, administrators, family, and friends gathered at a reception to congratulate the graduates.
