Former Cadet Shares Story of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Katherine Miller, a former West Point cadet who made news when she publicly resigned under the military’s “Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, visited Hawken Upper School on March 17. She addressed the difficulty of living in a culture that did not accept gays and lesbians and her determination “to give a face to those who had no voice.” Now that the policy has been repealed, she hopes to return to West Point next semester. A native of Findlay, Ohio, Katherine said she was impressed by the fact that two student groups, the Gay-Straight Alliance and Alpha Company, co-sponsored her visit to Hawken.
