Hawken Seniors Take First Place in State Chess Tournament
Congratulations to seniors Travis Fried, Roman Kowalysko, Stephen Hopkins, and Ryan Stefancik, who won the State Grade Championship in at the chess tournament held on November 20th at the Bertram Inn in Aurora. Team leader Roman Kowalysko also received the fourth place individual honors. This is a particularly exciting and noteworthy win, as the same team placed second in the state in 2008. Roman and Stephen were also part of a three-student team that won the Sixth Grade Ohio Championship in 2004. The trophy earned at the recent tournament will be presented to Hawken in the near future; stay tuned for a photograph to be posted soon!
