Monique DeVane to Head California School

Congratulations to Associate Head of School Monique Devane, who last week was appointed the next Head of School at The College Preparatory School in Oakland, CA beginning July 1, 2011.

Monique has served as Hawken’s Associate Head of School since 2006, advancing curriculum, program and faculty professional development. She has been instrumental in keeping Hawken forward-focused in her work as administrative liaison to the Education and Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees, member of the Early Childhood Center Task Force, and as one of the primary architects of the Hawken Method and our Purpose, Promise, and Principles. Monique led Hawken’s 2007 self-assesment and subsequent ISACS accreditation process in 2008. Hawken’s program has grown under Monique’s leadership in so many substantive ways, and for that the Hawken community will always be indebted to her. While she and her family will surely be missed, this opportunity is incredibly well suited to Monique’s extraordinary talent and experience as a school administrator, and is a positive reflection on Hawken’s nationally-renowned standing among independent schools.

Monique’s unique talents are such that finding a replacement for her will not be an easy task – but she has brought the school and its program to a position of great strength to find someone stellar to continue the implementation of our strategic curricular work. In the meantime, Monique is committed to actively fulfilling her responsibilities at Hawken through this school year and to aid us during this time of transition.
