Hawken Mourns Passing of Faculty Emerita LaVelle Esgar

The Hawken community mourns the loss of faculty emerita, LaVelle Esgar, who passed away on March 13, 2009. Mrs. Esgar worked at Hawken from 1973 until 1997. For more than two decades she served as a beloved lower and middle school teacher, learning specialist, and Lyndhurst calendar coordinator. Mrs. Esgar also helped Middle School students perfect their skills on the tennis courts as their coach. During the 1996-1997 school year, she was inducted as an honorary alumna of Hawken School. Mrs. Esgar is survived by her children Marla Robbins `75 and Ann Conkle `78. A memorial service for Mrs. Esgar is being planned for Friday, April 3, at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel on Hawken School`s Lyndhurst Campus.
