Hawken`s Four All-Stars

Of ten girls swimmers that The Plain Dealer named Northeast Ohio all-stars, four were from Hawken. Freshman Alana Arnold, senior Jennifer Aronoff, junior Brittany Rospierski and senior Brittany Strumbel were named among the highest performing athletes in the newpaper`s special high school winter sports award section for area`s best. Strumbel was named Swimmer of the Year for the second season in a row. Arnold was a powerhouse in swimming relays, finishing first in the 100-yard fly, eighth in the 50 free and swimming on the 200 medley team that won first place. She also was lead swimmer in the 400 free relay at the Division II state meet. Aronoff dominated in the 100-yard free, placing third in the event and fourth in the 200 individual medley. She was also a member of the first-place 200 free relay team and was the anchor of the 200 medley relay team at states. Rospierski`s event was the 100 yard breaststroke, which she won in record time. She also was second place in the first place 200 individual medley and swam on the first place 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams. Strumbel, an Indiana University recruit who is training for the Olympic trials in Omaha, Nebraska, led the ranks in the 500-yard free, holding the state title. For the third year in a row she placed first in the 200 free and anchored the winning 200 and 400 relay teams. Strumbel ends her Hawken career with a total of 13 gold and three silver medals.
