Hawken is proud to announce that 19 sixth graders will participate in a 10-week program to learn about investing in the stock market. The students have committed to attend trading sessions twice a week to work with their teams as they go online to research companies and discover how growth trends, P/E ratios, and other determinants can be used to predict investment risks. With an initial portfolio value of $100,000, students will buy and sell shares of stock in companies of their choosing in hopes of making financial gains. They will compete with other middle school students within 18 Ohio counties. Mr. Joe Brooks, an independent stock broker, will assist in facilitating this program. He has worked with students for many years, helping them understand the concepts of long-term investment. Congratulations to these students who volunteered to participate in the 2008 Ohio Stock Market Game, sponsored by Economics America and Ashland University: Christina Brosovich, Shang-Shang Chen, Caroline Doll, Anna Du, Nora Eagan, Erica Fearon, Ryuji Fujita, Jacob Greiff, Michael Holstein, Mary Horsburgh, Sophie Kerman, Bryce Lewis, Lauren Lumpkin, Will Mascaro, Efae Nicholson, Henry Senkfor, Alex Stotter, Sindhura Vallabhaneni, and Brandon Yonel.
