Family Presents Grant S. Roth `85 Community Service Plaque

lvl
Bob and Margo Roth joined the Hawken community for school meeting on Monday, April 20th, for the presentation of a plaque commemorating their son, Grant Roth `85, who passed away in 2005 after and 8-year battle with cancer. In 2007, Grant`s family and friends established the Grant S. Roth `85 Community Service Award in 2007 in his honor - an award that is presented annually to the Hawken student whose dedication and leadership in serving the local, national, or global community exemplifies Grant`s passion for doing good work on behalf of others. In addition to having his or her name engraved on the plaque, each year`s recipient has the honor of identifying an organization to which he or she would like to make a $500 donation. Grant embodied Hawken`s commitment to striving for a higher plane of life through his ability to look beyond himself, to help out without having to be asked, and to understand what it means to be actively engaged in serving others. The Grant Roth Community Service Award is a compelling reminder that true commitment and true passion to serve comes from within. The plaque presented to Mr. Peters by Sara Mierke on Monday already bears the names of the first recipients of the award: Aaron Kohn, 2007 recipient, and Samantha Kadis, 2008 recipient. The 2009 recipient of the award will be announced on Awards Day.
