Third and fourth graders earn trophy

Laura
Lower School students earned a second-place trophy competing against 60 Northeast Ohio teams in a Destination ImagiNation Tournament held during spring break. The group of third and fourth graders started working together in September as part of an after school Passport Program. In December the group committed to the competition and chose the challenge of Card-DI-iology -- an exercise in structural and architectural design. During the course of 12 practices, the team of five students -- Sarah S., Maya G., Anthony C., Conrad Y. and Ben L. -- designed, built and tested a weight-bearing structure made entirely of playing cards. The students created a story and props to accompany their project. During the competition, the students also participated in an impromptu exercise called an "Instant Challenge" for which they were given five minutes to perform. Destination ImagiNation is a community-based program that builds participants` creativity, problem solving skills, and teamwork. Congratulations to Hawken`s Destination ImagiNation team!
