Middle Schoolers make Hawken No. 1 in nation in math league

jb
Nine sixth graders have made Hawken School number one in the nation in the Euclidian Division of the Continental Mathematics League competition. Each of the students began in November in the League`s annual competition, which spans five months, with a series of six complex math problems and only 30 minutes to answer them. In subsequent rounds that followed-one each month through March-they were given the same time frame and number of problems. When it was all over, the nine Middle Schoolers had earned perfect scores during each round winning the League`s distinction of National Student Leaders. Collectively they boosted Hawken to first place among over 300 other schools throughout the country Russell Cohen, Sydney Costantini, Taylor Forsythe, Grace Foster, Alex Kaufman, Peter Labes, Hunter Moeller, Stephen Petersilge and Caroline Vexler are the top-scoring students. An eighth grader, Mitchell Joseph, also competed, earned perfect scores in each round and was named a National Student Leader.
