A triumph of school spirit

Hawken students go the extra mile, 160 more precisely, to cheer on the men`s lacrosse team as they made it to the Final Four. They rode a yellow school bus two and a half hours, after school, arriving for the second half of the Varsity men`s lacrosse state semi-final game at New Albany, in Columbus, Ohio. Then, 45 minutes later, the red-shirted, body-painted students boarded the school bus for the two and a half hour ride back home. \"The show of support was amazing for our boys,\" said Head Coach Donald Gries. It meant so much to the lacrosse program to see that kind of fan loyalty as the Hawks made it to the Final Four. The Hawks battled in 88 degree heat on New Albany`s home turf. It was a tough loss, but certainly an incredible season for the lacrosse team. To see the cheers of the students as they arrived at the stadium made one proud to be a Hawk. The Hawken men`s lacrosse team was just one win shy of the championship game. Way to go Men`s lacrosse team! Tremendous thanks and gratitude go out to all of the students who braved the bumpy yellow school bus ride for the 5 hours of travel, to see the last half of the game in Columbus. That is what being a Hawken Hawk was all about last Wednesday -- comradeship, support, going the extra miles to be there. -- Andrea Razavi, Hawken parent
