Hawken sophomore publishes first book

Jacob and Esau on the Jeremiah Springer Show? Isaac and Ishmael on a special edition of Orpah? And what about Sigmund Freud`s attempts to probe the issues surrounding Isaac`s close call atop Mount Moriah? You`ve never heard the Bible told quite this way. But now, through the mind and wit of Hawken sophomore Samuel Milner, those hallowed stories and revered biblical figures have been given a 21st century makeover in Milner`s new and first book, The Bible (A Parody). The book was borne from Milner`s preparation for the International Bible Contest in 2004. His winning the National Bible Contest here in the states in 2003 had earned him a spot at the competition in Jerusalem. But well after returning from Israel, Milner found himself musing about all of his biblical studies in a very different way. What if God had made a to-do list with all of Creation? he wondered. \"...I came up with the idea of keeping the days of Creation straight and wrote a to-do list,\" Milner said. \"More ideas kept coming and over the course of a year I had assembled stories for the entire Torah.\" Milner said the book, published by iUniverse, is hopefully only a beginning. The Bible (A Parody) is available at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lyndhurst and online at both bn.com and amazon.com. Visit www.freewebs.com/thebibleaparody for more information.
