A Concert Of Remembrance

waskowitz
On Tuesday May 8, from 7:00-8:00 PM in Hawken`s Kennedy Auditorium (on the Gates Mills campus) the Hawken Community is planning a collaborative Concert of Remembrance, featuring Panor+â-ímicos, a critically acclaimed Cleveland Chamber Music Ensemble. The concert is for students and families from the Cleveland Council of Independent Schools and focuses on events from the Holocaust and World War II. The goal is to put on a concert filled with beauty that helps all to remember what happened not so very long ago. The performance will feature the premiere of two musical pieces (composer Michael Cohen`s \"From The Wall\" and Cleveland composer Anne Wilson`s \"The Butterfly\") and will feature several guest speakers, concentration camp survivors (one from Europe and two from the Pacific arena), and a WWII Veteran. We expect that this will be an evening to remember for students and adults, so that we, as a culture, do not forget. Our speakers will add a personal and intergenerational element to the evening. This evening will portray events that are not simply "from a history book"; the musicians and speakers will be telling a story that proclaims "this really happened...I was there...and I am talking with you." We feel a certain urgency to bring this message to our young people and make a personal connection with those who were there during this dark period from our collective history as a people. In a very short time, these real voices will no longer be heard from in such a setting. Works include several musical settings of poetry, literature (The Diary of Anne Frank), and a work by a Camp Composer (E. Schulhoff) among others. Panor+â-ímicos members: Sandra Simon: Soprano, Apollo`s Fire (U.S. and HB parent) Ralph Curry: Cello, Cleveland Orchestra (Hawken parent) Lynne Ramsey: Viola, Cleveland Orchestra (Ruffing Montessori parent) Thomas Sperl: Double Bass, Cleveland Orchestra Anne Wilson: Composer, Pianist, (faculty Laurel) Cheryl Losey: Harp Mary Kay Ferguson: Flute, Red~an orchestra, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Cleveland Pops Orchestra (Hawken parent) There is no need to R.S.V.P. for this event.
