Hawken Beats US in Basketball!

At a packed Kilroy Field House, the Hawken Men`s Basketball team beat University School 56-49 in a hotly contested game between the two archrivals. Hawken students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni turned out in droves to cheer on the Hawks, dressed in red and cheering loudly throughout the game. At one point in the first quarter, Hawken was down 17-4 as the US faithful chanted \"Scoreboard!, Scoreboard!\" McGregor`s Militia (the Hawken student cheering section named in honor of Coach Shawn McGregor) countered back with \"OOOH, AHHH, Hawks are on the Warpath!\" The Hawks battled back with pressure defense causing key US turnovers in the 4th quarter, scoring breakaway points, and coolly making free throws in the face of deafening jeers by the US fans to cement the biggest victory of the season for the successful Hawks. The final score showed Hawken 56, University School 49. At the final buzzer, Hawken fans stormed the floor to embrace their team and revel in the victory. The rivalry lives on, as both sides exhibited exemplary sportsmanship and passion for their respective teams. It was a night that made the Hawken community proud of their team, students and fans. In celebration, the Senior class provided a barbeque in the parking lot on Wednesday afternoon. The entire Upper School community was invited.
