Power Of The Pen Teams Finish Second At District Tournament!

Hawken`s 7th & 8th grade Power Of The Pen Teams recently participated in the District Tournament at Chagrin Falls Middle School on Saturday, January 29th. The Tournament was comprised of roughly 20 area schools, most with seventh and eighth grade teams of six writers each. Hawken`s 7th grade team included Hannah K. (1st place individual), Nick R. (9th place individual), Julie Z. (13th place individual), Stephanie H., Laura K., Joceyln A., and alternates Marissa B. and Abi M. Julie Z. won a \"Best of Round\" for one of her narratives. In the end, the 7th grade team fininshed in second place overall! The eighth grade team included Rosalind B. (14th place individual), Iris R. (Best of Round for one narrative), Elizabeth B., Hannah P., Randi M., Ana M., and alternate Connor Z.. The 8th grade team also finished in second place overall! Within the next week, students will find out who progresses to the regional contest which will be at Hawken on March 11. Power Of The Pen, a creative writing program for 7th and 8th grade students in the state of Ohio, was incorporated as a non-profit educational organization in 1989 and has since attracted participation from schools in more than 80 counties in Ohio.
