Middle School Mid-Semester Grades & Comments To Be Mailed Home

Mid-Semester Grades and Comments were be mailed home to parents on Friday, November 4. Upcoming Parent-Advisor Conferences are on November 10-11. These mid-semester grades and comments are a chance for all concerned to take a timely look at a child`s progress since the start of school. Understandably, there can often be much anticipation and/or anxiety about this first round of grades and comments. Please bear in mind some of the following suggestions/guidelines: 1. A grade and comment are only a brief glimpse at a particular moment in time of a child`s performance/development at this point in their Middle School years. There is ample time for improvement no matter whether a child is in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade. 2. A grade and comment are meant to be both descriptive and prescriptive; a child needs to know what she/he can do to strengthen areas of particular academic skills no matter what their grade and comment. 3. A grade and comment are meant to be a form of information and motivation. While a child needs to know what can be done to meet with improvement, she/he also needs to know that they are doing a good job. 4. While setting performance-based goals can be a form of motivation for a child, it is important to realize that the \"road to success\" is a long one that has individual challenges and bumps as part of the journey. A grade that is in the \"C\" range can often be just as respectable as a grade that is in the \"A\" range. As always, your child`s advisor plays an important role in helping to understand and make sense of the upcoming grades and comments. Please be sure to share any thoughts or concerns with your child`s advisor at any point in the academic year.
