On February 25, seven members of the Hawken School Academic Challenge Team participated in the 15th Annual Copley Invitational Academic Challenge Tournament. Varsity Team 1, consisting of Jon Moorman `06, Joe Liang `06, Kenan Diab `07, and Samuel Milner `09, defeated Perry, Fisher Catholic, St. Peter, Cloverleaf, James A. Garfield, and Solon. The team placed second in the division with a 6-1 record, losing only to Orange in the final round 48-42. Varsity Team 2, comprised of Peter Hedman `06, John Borokovich `09, and Alec Lai `09 defeated Solon`s Team 2 to finish sixth in their division. Also, on the Academic Challenge television show, Hawken`s team of Jon Moorman, Kenan Diab, and Samuel Milner (Joe Liang, alternate) is tied for sixth place midway through the season. Although the teams will not be appearing on the show again this season, if they finish in the top ten, the show`s sponsor, Westfield Insurance, will provide grant money to the school. Additionally, the team may be competing at Case on March 25. Hawken`s first appearance on the Academic Challenge in early December with Open Door Christian School and Saints John and Paul. The taped show aired Saturday February 4th at 6:30 pm, on Channel 5. Hawken was victorious!
