Backpacks En Route to Louisiana
Hawken community members donated 798 backpacks to the "Backpacks 4 Kids" relief effort for children displaced by Hurricane Katrina, bringing the total number of backpacks to 1378! The backpacks are fully loaded onto the truck, with several boxes of extra supplies, and will arrive in Lafayette, LA and Pine Bluff, AK by the end of this week. This tremendous community effort, begun by Hawken 3rd Graders, grew to include the Andrews, Dodge Intermediate, Horizon Montessori, Laurel, Lawrence, Ratner, and Ruffing Montessori schools, and attracted news coverage by the Plain Dealer and several area news broadcasts.
