Congratulations, Class of 2020!
Congratulations to members of Hawken's Class of 2020, who celebrated Commencement on Saturday, July 25 at a ceremony held on the Great Lawn at the Gates Mills campus, where graduates were able to receive their diplomas in front of their peers and families while also adhering to physical distancing guidelines.
Families of graduates, some with decorated cars, pitched tents, and/or tailgate activities, watched the ceremony from designated spaces on the Great Lawn. In addition to a large LED screen for better viewing, the ceremony was live-streamed for extended family members and friends who were unable to attend in person.
Following the processional, the ceremony featured a greeting from Head of School Scott Looney, senior speakers John Bukovnik and Catherine Sedlak, Phi Beta Kappa speaker Adele Metres, and an address to the graduating class by Assistant to the Deans Lisa Gilbert. Andrew Jones, PhD, dean for the Class of 2020, presented the charge to the Class of 2020, after which the students were awarded their diplomas.

This year’s Hawken graduates will attend 80 different colleges and universities in 25 states and two foreign countries. In total, members of the Class of 2020 were offered over $11 million in scholarships.
