Birchwood Math Team Wins 3rd at State Competition
Birchwood School of Hawken's MathCounts team placed 3rd at the state level competition on March 9th. Led by their coach and school co-founder, Chuck Debelak, students John Shin, Ehren Collins, James Mamone, and Aidan Berard proudly represented their school’s strong math program. John Shin finished in 12th place individually.
MathCounts aims to improve attitudes about math at a critical time in students’ development. Their extra-curricular programs encourage problem-solving and critical thinking skills in students of all ability levels.
MathCounts is one of the country’s largest and most successful education partnerships. Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan have all recognized MathCounts in White House ceremonies.
